Donald Johanson, discoverer of ‘Lucy’, when asked what is his major interest now:

“What are the evolutionary foundations of modern humans? The features that distinguish us from all other animals are symbolic language, our cooperation, and a culture that allows us to make cumulative developments that no single individual could make alone”

Thinking about the question is somewhat of an exercise in solipsism. Monkey is as monkey does. The crucial one common factor, however, about us humans, not that well understood, is that what we do, how we behave, is largely determined by what we are made of, and how we are put together. There is a lot to learn and a lot we can benefit from.
